Miadhu News Editor Abdul Latheef Adam has stated that the biggest concern was translation of Quran in any manner people saw fit.
He made the statement speaking in the seminar conducted by Dhivehi language academy on the usage of language.
Latheef said the word “Mohamed” was written in a specific style in the Quran, adding that he did not believe the name should be written in any other style.
“Even in the Siyarah, the Prophet’s name is written in a specific way. So we know that it has a revered status and specific style. So I do not believe the name should be written in a different style,”
He stressed that an academic research must be carried out to set a precedent that must be followed.
“The name can be written as it is in the Quarn, I don’t see a reason why there should be a change,”
He also noted that it was the set standard in Saudi Arabia to use “Muhammad” when writing “Mohamed”.
