Biggest issue is the increasing number of foreigners: ACC
ACC has stated that the biggest issue facing the Maldives is the issue of increasing number of foreigners working and living in the Maldives. The agency said they were conducting research on how to limit the number of expatriates.

ACC President Hassan Luthfee made the revelation in the ceremony held in Islamic Ministry for the employees of the Ministry to sign the integrity pledge.

Luthfee said the report compiled will be delivered to the government and stakeholder agencies, following completion. He added the biggest issue facing the country was increasing number of expatriates and that ACC was working to analyzed the issue.

Luthfee said the one out of three prayer goers in the Friday prayer congregation in Islamic Center were expatriates, noting that this was a concerning issue.

Recently, Minister of Defense Adam Shareef Adam had highlighted that the increasing number of expatriates posed a potential threat to national security. Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed had also focused on the potential issues, noting that the majority of the government subsidies were received by the expatriates, adding that this had caused a detrimental effect on the economy.
