President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has launched the construction of the new terminal of the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).
The project was launched tonight in a ceremony held in the airport.
The project was handed over to Saudi Arabia’s bin Laden Group. Bin Laden Group representative Abdul Aziz bin Laden and MACL Managing Director Adil Moosa signed the agreement on behalf of their companies.
Speaking in the ceremony, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said the project is progressing ahead with the full knowledge that the airport will become a state of the art one and having resolved all challenges faced in getting the funds for the project.
He added that this was one of the biggest and the most profitable projects in the history of the country.
“This is not an ordinary thing for a country like Maldives. This proves the long term vision and strategy of the President,”
Speaking in the ceremony, Abdul Aziz bin Laden assured that the group will focus on completing the project and create an airport that will be beneficial and important to the public. He thanked the Government for choosing the Group as a partner for the project.
