In a bid to enhance their services to the public, Maldives Police Service (MPS) has made administrative changes to the Service.
Police said the move was enabled to accelerate services granted to the public by the Service.
The decision was undertaken after discussions with Executive Board by Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef.
The Institute for Security and Law Enforcement Studies will now be run under Services Development Directorate, while the Police Academy will be managed as separate department under the Directorate.
Divisional Operations Command has been divided into two sections, with Northern Operations Command and Southern Operations Command founded. Upper North Police Division, North Central Police Division will run under Northern Operations Command. Central Police Division, South Central Police Division, Upper South Police Division and South Police Division will be managed under Southern Operations Command.
Specialist Operations Department, newly formed Industrial Department and Integrated Services Command will run under a dedicated department of the Central Operations Command. Police Custodial Department, Marine Police Department and Police Communications Center will be managed under the Integrated Services Command.
Senior officials had also been appointed. Head of Northern Operations Command - Assistant Commissioner of Police Ali Rasheed, Deputy Head of Northern Operations Command - Chief Superintendent of Police Abdullah Shareef, Head of Southern Operations Command - Assistant Commissioner of Police Hussain Adam, Deputy Head of Southern Operations Command - Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Shiyam, Deputy Head of Southern Operations Command - Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Shiyam, Head of Integrated Services Command - Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Jamsheed, Deputy Head of Integrated Services Command - Superintendent of Police Mohamed Dawood, Head of Forensic Services Directorate - Assistant Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, Head of Services Development Directorate - Assistant Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau, Head of Central Operations Command - Chief Superintendent of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed, Deputy Head of Central Operations Command - Superintendent of Police Hussain Rasheed and Deputy Head of Crime Investigation Command - Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Riyaz.
