President sends message of sympathy to the Sri Lankan President
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to the President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, following flooding and landslides as a result of the torrential rains causing the loss of many lives across Sri Lanka.
The President’s message reads as follows:
“ It was with deep shock and sorrow that I learnt of the devastating flooding and landslides as a result of the torrential rains, which led to loss of lives, displacement of countless people and extensive damage to property and livelihoods of thousands of people across Sri Lanka.”
“At this time of national distress, the Government and the people of the Maldives join me in extending our profound sympathy to Your Excellency, the Government and the friendly people of Sri Lanka, particularly to the bereaved families. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the families of the injured.”
“I wish every success in the rescue and recovery efforts of those who are directly affected by this tragedy.”
