Maldives Hajj Corporation has revealed that over 1500 individuals wishing to complete the pilgrimage with the Corporation had paid 75 percent of the fees.
Speaking to Miadhu, Hajj Corporation Managing Director Yameen Idhris said all individuals had been listed under the quota.
The Government had allotted a quota of 400 people to Hajj Corporation. No decision had been made on how much of the additional 1000 quota will be granted to the corporation.
Even with an additional estimate of 500 individuals from the 1000 quota, Hajj Corporation will have a total of 900. Based on the current payment figures, 600 people will be still waiting for a spot.
It has been reported to Miadhu that based on current demand, a quota of 3000 and 4000 is required for the country.
Yameen Idhris added that most of the applicants paid the fees when the Hajj period starts and therefore, they are listed at the bottom of the list. He said that people who paid earlier will have better chances of getting placement.
“Many pay at this period, which ends them at the bottom of the list. If you register and pay earlier, you have a better chance of going,”
The Hajj quota issued by Saudi Arabia had increased to 2000 as a special grant by the Saudi Government due to the close relationship between the two governments. This is an amount significantly higher than other nations.
Ten state agencies had signed on the program to attend pilgrimage by deducting from salaries. Employment Tribunal and IGMH were the latest parties to sign on the program.
