The Supreme Court has cancelled the hearing of the suo moto trial by Supreme Court against the Human Rights Commission (HRCM).
The Supreme Court decided to begin a trial under suo motu regulations, against the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives based on the Commission’s report to the United Nation’s Universal Periodic Review.
Although Supreme court did not publicise the reason for the cancellation of the hearing, it is reported that one of the judges in the judges bench is on leave.
The first hearing of the suo moto trial by Supreme Court against the Human Rights Commission was conducted on last Wednesday.
The Commission presented evidence that is available at present at today’s hearing. The evidence includes documents summarizing the UPR process, information on the UPR process and a list of institutions to which the Commission sent the UPR report for comments.
The Commission further requested for more time to prepare detailed evidence and documents for the case.
