Former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has stated a proper functional workplace was essential to civil service employees.
He made the statement delivering the key note address at the opening ceremony of the Civil Service Symposium 2016.
Dr. Waheed said that pay and allowances were core to all employees. Even still, he said that research had shown that work place and work conditions and job satisfaction played a vital role in ensuring employability.
He added that service to the public was headed not by political figures, but that civil service has to take initiative on leadership. As such, he appealed to civil service employees to take more initiative in their fulfilling their mandate.
Dr. Waheed noted that every government had conducted programs to upgrade civil service employees. He said that today’s civil service sector employees have to be of a higher caliber to meet the challenges of today.
He stressed that civil service sector had proven to be extremely resilient in the face of political turbulence, adding that this was a resounding success for the nation.
