Child exploiters must be penalized to prevent children from entering crime
A children’s rights advocate has stated that in order to prevent children from committing crimes, severe punishments must be dealt to those individuals who actively exploit children for their own means.

Speaking to Miadhu on the occasion of Children’s Day, he said the biggest concern was that there were groups that used children in crimes such as drug peddling, theft and assault. He said that such cases had been going on for years, but no trial had been conducted against such individuals.

“The children are victimized; they earn heavy punishments. But no action is taken against those who encourage or force them to doing such acts,”

The advocate added that children had been designated as people under the age of 18 years old to grant certain rights and protect those rights. However, if those very laws are being exploited, then it has to be acted on.

Police today said that between two to three cases involving minors are filed to the department on a daily basis.
