Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar has stated that if the citizens do not reflect on the nation’s foreign policy status and limit foreign influence then another Andhiri Andhirin would be given the opportunity to dictate our internal affairs.
Speaking in the ceremony held in Addu city to mark the Martyr’s day, Minister Shareef warned that the consequences of allowing foreigners to dictate national policies would be dire.
Minister Shareef also said that increase in number of foreign nationals in the country was also a concerning issue and could potentially create many problems. He reflected on the cultural influences changing Dhivehi. The Minister said there was a real fear that Dhivehi as a language was under threat.
Minister Shareef said that Andhiri Andhirin was also a Maldivian who had renounced Islam when he had left for India. And that King Hassan IX was also a Maldivian who had renounced Islam.
Adam Shareef said that Maldives was a target because of the nation’s Islamic faith, which was seen in the Portuguese conquest of the Maldives.
Adam Shareef said those who defamed the nation, especially on international arena, were traitors, similar to the work carried out by those in alliance with Portuguese.
