Former Minister Dr. Mariyam Shakeela has said that if women and men worked together, attaining success would become easier.
Dr. Shakeela, a former Minister of three Ministry’s, made the statement in her address at the 7th Global Congress and Conferment ceremony of Singapore’s Royal Institute.
Dr. Shakeela, Chairperson of Institute for Counseling and Psychotherapy, said the question of female empowerment was a key issue. She said that both sexes were inherently different, noting that equal participation was key in ensuring that success was achieved.
She noted that without equal participation from women and access for women was essential in all development. Dr. Shakeela said that Maldivian women were more educated than their counterparts in the region and had better access to education and employment opportunities. Nevertheless, she said that Maldivian women faced significant challenges, even in schools and workplace.
Dr. Shakeela was conferred the Research Fellow of Royal Institute of Research” status.
