STELCO & Ooredoo Partner for Mobile Money Bill Payment
Ooredoo Maldives and State Electric Company Ltd today signed an agreement to enable a convenient method of bill payment using Ooredoo Mobile Money service. This useful service will allow customers to pay their electricity bills from anywhere, at any time, using a simple mobile phone. The companies formalised their partnership at a signing ceremony held at STELCO today, attended by the Managing Director of State Electric Company (STELCO), Mr Abdul ShakoorSolih and Ooredoo Maldives CEO, Mr Vikram Sinha.

Ooredoo Maldives CEO, Mr Vikram Sinha said: “Ooredoo continues to explore new and innovative ways of enriching people’s lives, and connecting them to convenient new solutions for everyday issues faced across our communities. As we prepare for the commercial launch of Ooredoo Mobile Money service in the Maldives, we are extremely pleased to partner with STELCO in order to add this useful new feature to our mobile money portfolio.”

Managing Director of State Electric Company (STELCO), Mr Abdul ShakoorSolih said:“With the introduction of Ooredoo Mobile Money Service, STELCO customers will be able to pay their bills anywhere, at any time, using their mobile phones. We take this opportunity to thank the management of Ooredoo for their initiative. We believe our customers will find this service useful and convenient.”

Ooredoo Maldives piloted its Mobile Money services in February 2016, with the aim of providing local communities with a convenient, secure and affordable way to manage monetary transactions, through a simple mobile phone. The services enables monetary transactions to be carried out via a mWallet - a virtual account tied to the customer’s mobile number and valid identification card. Ooredoo’s mWallet allows customers to deposit, withdraw and transfer money, top up their prepaid accounts, pay merchants, and even pay their bills.

While Ooredoo’s Mobile Money service has only been opened to a limited number of customers during the pilot phase, this helpful service will soon be available for all customers using a local network provided that they have a valid national identification card or passport, following its commercial launch.
