President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed the tourism industry to increase more jobs for locals.
President made this remark in his statement on the occasion of World Tourism Day. He said that the Tourism Industry generates many job opportunities.
He called the respected authorities to facilitate more job opportunities to Maldivians. He also said that it is very important that the youth take the best of these opportunities.
President Yameen said that the number of tourists visiting the country has increased over the years. He said that the majority of tourists come from China. To increase this number and facilitate ease for the Chinese tourists more Chinese airlines will be commencing flights to Maldives.
“Increase in the number of tourists visiting Maldives benefits the economy and social development of Maldives. It increases the foreign currency entering the country and it generates more job opportunities,” he said.
He also urged the youth to join the tourism industry. “The government will work to ensure different job opportunities and carrier development in the tourism industry for the Maldivian youth,” he said.
The President revealed plans of developing additional five tourist resorts this year. He said that the government is working to expand the tourism industry to all regions of Maldives.
