The Government has begun to distribute compensation for families whose homes were destroyed in the fire at Coast Line Hardware.
The distribution began at 2.00 pm at Finance Ministry today.
As part of compensation, Government had announced that 40 percent of compensation, amounting to a little over MVR 2 million, will be paid. Families whose homes were destroyed in the fire have been appealed to come forward and claim compensation. Thirty-four households will be compensated under the initiative, based on the extent of the damages.
In addition to the MVR 2 million, Coast Line Hardware had paid MVR 1 million and members of public had donated MVR 3000.
The finances will be released by Finance Ministry. Forty-seven individuals are under state care. They are housed in guesthouses, with the state spending over MVR 50000 on their daily needs.
