President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has expressed his thanks to the Maldivian public for their “heat-warming” show of support upon his return after being conferred the first Dr Kalam Puraskar for Excellence in Governance Award.
The President's message reads as follows:
"Thank you all for your support.
It was heart-warming to come home to the Maldives and to be received with such warmth and enthusiasm. To be greeted by women, children and men of all ages, representing the different facets of this nation, and to be acknowledged for achievements that my administration considers to still be an ongoing effort, truly re-energised my spirits and has further hardened my resolve.
Your celebration of our work, which has led to this recognition, leaves me vindicated that what my team and I are working towards in terms of progress is meaningful – that it matters and is worthy of recognition because it resonates with the individual as well as our collective identity as Maldivians.
We will work to enhance the quality of life in this nation. We will seek to bring more hope to all; women, children, the youth and every citizen of this nation. And we will deliver on the promise of economic prosperity and pragmatic progress.
I would also like to thank the Dale View Group of Institutions and the people of Thiruvananthapuram and India for bestowing upon me, and my country, the distinct honour of being the first to receive the “Dr. Kalam Puraskar for Excellence in Governance”. My work, as that of my administration, has always been in the service of delivering real economic progress and it was humbling to be recognised by a community much larger and diverse than us. I wish the Dale View Group, and the people of India, tremendous success; may our relationship of mutual respect and friendship continue to grow and deliver us to new heights of collaboration and cooperation.
