President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has ratified the Second amendment to the “Family Act” (Act No. 4/2000). The Bill was passed by the Parliament at the 26th sitting of its first session, on 18th April 2016.
Following ratification, the Act has been published in the Government Gazette.
The amendment requires social and legal guidelines to provide temporary housing facilities for the woman and children involved in a divorce. It also requires the establishment of guidelines for property division upon divorce.
