World Tourism Day, celebrated every year on 27 September, has been celebrated colorfully in Maldives.
While the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom gave a special speech on the occasion of World Tourism Day, Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adheeb also spoke of the role of tourism in the economy of Maldives.
He stated that people from all walks of life enjoy the benefits of the tourism industry. He said that 90 percent of the foreign currency entering Maldives is generated by the Tourism Industry.
Special events were conducted by the Tourism Ministry in all of the airports of Maldives to welcome tourists.
In this regard, special activities were held in Villa Company operated Maamigili International Airport and Kadehdhoo Airport.
Many tourist resorts also celebrated World Tourism Day with various activities.
