The newly appointed chief of the Center for Maritime Studies Captain Ahmed Zubair said that the target was to train captains and chief officers in the Center.
Speaking in the ceremony after being appointed to the position, Zubair said that up until now three levels of marine related education was taught and watchkeeping work was the only available option for the graduates. He said therefore, courses training captains and chief officers was extremely important.
Zubair said that even last year, 1300 individuals were trained in 20 courses from the Center and that next year the number is expected to increase. He attributed this to the changes made to the sea transportation act.
Zubair said a service and standards upgrade was required to carry out the courses provided by the Centre. He added that ISO standard lecturers were required to teach in the Centre as the Center was run on ISO standards.
He said that he will seek to resolve all issues facing the Center.
