No sympathy for parties who call for measures without considering status: President Yameen
President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that he had no sympathy or consideration for parties who calls for measures against the Maldives without considering the status of the country or asking for input.

He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held to mark the 124th anniversary of the Armed Forces held in Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi.

President said those parties cannot be seen as allies of Maldives. “Our friends are those parties who respect our values and support to protect our institutions,” he said. The President said those parties calling against those principles, call to bend laws and rules to suit their own needs are not allies and will not be tolerated by the nation.

President Yameen said the Maldives did not interfere in the domestic issues of other nations or urge them to treat Maldivians in those nations differently. “We do not condmen their procedures,” he said.

The President further said many nations were actively implementing death penalty on various crimes. This aspect, President Yameen said was conveniently ignored.

“Less justice for smaller nations. This is a difficult aspect to believe, but it is what’s happening. This is the basics of international diplomacy,” President Yameen said.
