Government has revealed that they were willing to proceed the all-party talks, with the inclusion of those political leaders serving jail terms.
Speaking to press in President’s Office, lead negotiator and Agriculture Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee said the Government teams will visit those persons in jail to conduct the talks.
“Former President Nasheed will have to return back to the Maldives. We are ready to engage in discussions with President Nasheed and Sheikh Imran,” he said.
Dr. Shainee said the decision was not taken due to pressure but rather to facilitate development and progress stalled by the political situation in the country.
He added that the UN representative, currently in the country to facilitate the discussions, had met all representatives of the political parties. Dr. Shainee said the Government was engaging in daily discussions with the representative.
