Three hundred and three students have graduated from the courses conducted by Villa College and Open University Malaysia (OUM).
Speaking in the convocation ceremony held this morning, Villa College Rector Dr. Ahmed Anwar said 86 of the graduates are Master’s Degree holders and 217 were Bachelor’s Degree holders.
Dr. Anwar said in total over 1000 students had graduated from the programs conducted by the College and OUM. Out of this 292 were Master’s degree program graduates and 717 were Bachelor’s degree program graduates.
Villa Group Managing Director Ibrahim Siyad Qasim was the chief guest of the ceremony. OUM Vice President Professor Ahmed Hashim also took part in the ceremony.
Addressing the graduates, Dr. Anwar reflected on the role Villa College and Villa Foundation Founder Qasim Ibrahim had played in bringing higher education to the Maldives at a time when higher education opportunities were rarely available in the country.
“It’s not just in Male’, he had furthered higher education to various parts of the country,” he said.
Dr. Anwar added that he had hoped to change the College into a University at the soonest, adding that all the required procedures had now been completed. He further said that the College was aiming at continued improvement in performance and quality.
An additional 110 students had graduated from programs run by Villa College.
