A massive fire broke out this evening at the Coastline Hardware showroom in Maafannu Ward of Male’.
The fire broke out at around 1630 hrs, which was extinguished only after four hours later. The surrounding buildings were damaged in the fire.
Defense Minister Adam Shareef said there were issues in controlling and extinguishing the fire due to the high number of chemicals stored in the location. He added that state agencies had worked in collaboration to extinguish the fire.
President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom and Defense Minister had visited the scene of the incident and surveyed the damages.
Disaster Management Centre is currently providing assistance to the 23 individuals who had been evacuated from the area, but had not revealed additional details on the extent of losses.
Many members of public had worked in collaboration with the Police and MNDF.
