We have to graciously accept Saudi King assistance: President Yameen
President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that we all have to accept the assistance granted by Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud to the Maldives.

He made the statement speaking in the opening ceremony of the Masjid Abu Bakr in Kanduhulhudhoo.

President Yameen said the Islamic Center in Male’ was small for the current audience. He added that the Malik Salman mosque, which will be constructed this year, will become a beacon of Islamic values of the country.

Since his visit to the Maldives two years before, Saudi King had built over 10 mosques in the country on his own accord. He added that the Saudi government assistance in constructing other mosques was also a significant aid.

President Yameen said the Maldives was a small Islamic nation and that many leaders of Islamic nations had appreciated the work carried out by Maldives to maintain the status quo.

“The assistance those nations provided to the Maldives on core Islamic issues is invaluable. However, we are a small nation. The only leverage we have is our vote in the UN, our voice in the UN. We have to make the best use of such opportunities. This is the reason for the better relations with Arab Islamic nations. The results of this was also successful,” President Yameen said.
