Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz has state that the China Maldives Friendship Bridge, linking Male’ and Hulhule’, was being constructed at the most economical rates.
Responding to a question posed by Central Henveiru Constituency MP Ali Azim in the question time in today’s Parliament session, Dr. Muizz said that the whole project is expected to cost around US$ 210 million.
“Bridge Construction is expected to cost US$ 191, design and consultancy is around US$ 12 million. In total US$ 210 million,” he said.
Dr. Muizz noted that even though some consultants had pitched proposals of US$ 100 million, constructing a bridge to quality standards will cost more than US$ 100 million.
“Speaking personally as a person who has had experience in the sector, this is the most economical rate for a bridge,” he said.
Speaking on the construction status, Dr. Muiz added the temporary beams and platforms are nearing completion. Once completed, the beams of the bridge will be installed.
