Indian President welcomes ‘India first’ foreign policy
Indian President Pranabh Mukerjhee has welcomed Maldives’ ‘India First” foreign policy, as announced by President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom on his recent trip to India.

Various Indian media source said Indian President had welcomed the statements made by President Yameen during the discussions. President Mukherji, in his turn said that India had always prioritized on a ‘neighbors first’ policy and that Maldives was a close and dear nation to India.

He also pledged all possible assistance to the Maldives, as required.

In his address, President Yameen noted the relationship between Maldives and India was based on respect and friendship. The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to work with India against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and strengthen cooperation to enhance maritime safety and security in the Indian Ocean Region.

President Mukerjhi had gifted President Yameen with one of his books. The meeting was held yesterday evening in the Indian Presidential Palace, Rashtrapati Bhavan.
