The Maldives will mark the 50th anniversary to the opening of the airport tomorrow.
The official celebrations will begin at 6.00 am tomorrow morning at the airport with a flag hoisting ceremony. Home Minister Umar Naseer will be the chief guest of the ceremony.
After that, MACL will donate a computer lab, with 15 systems, to the Children’s shelter.
A fifty-foot cake will also be cut in the afternoon as part of the celebrations, along with the unveiling of the new airport model.
Hulhule’ Airport was initially opened on 19th October 1960, by the English Government, inlaid with metal sheeting on the runway. The metal sheeting runway was dismantled, developed by maldivians and opened on 12th April 1966. The airport was opened by former President Ibrahim Nasir at 4pm that day.
