Green fund is important to protect the islands of Maldives- Minister Thoriq
Minister of Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has underscored the importance of the assistance from the green fund to protect the islands of Maldives.

The Minister made this remark at the press conference regarding the Climate Summit 2014 held by the Secretary General of United Nations (UN) Ban Kee-Moon which was held yesterday at the Ministry.

Speaking at the press conference Minister Thoriq Ibrahim said that the Climate Summit which was held yesterday (23 September 2014) is an added advantage to the ongoing works to reduce the causes and effects of climate change and acknowledged the support given by the developed countries and those countries which release the most amount of depleting substances into the atmosphere to take critical measures on reducing or eliminating the effects.

Minister also said that the Maldives pledges to be part of the global solution by committing to a low-emission development. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dunya Maumoon, Maldives special envoy to UN Ahmed Sareer and the Director General of Ministry of Environment and Energy, Republic of Maldives Mr. Amjad Abdulla have participated in the Climate Summit 2014 as representatives of Maldives.

In this press conference Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of State Abdulla Majeed and heads of the Ministry have participated. This press conference was held to express the view of the Ministry regarding the conference and the important factors of the conference.
