Supreme Court has stated that the Court will decide on the time period to be given to the defendant to prepare for the trial.
Supreme Court stated this in the hearing of the trial under suo motu regulations, against the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives based on the Commission’s report to the United Nation’s Universal Periodic Review.
The Chief Judge Ahmed Faiz said that the court will provide the defendant time that the court sees fit. He made this remark when the members of HRCM requested for a period of five days for them to prepare for the case.
The Chief Judge said that a third hearing will be held on next Sunday at 1:30. He stated that the HRCM should make their plea against charges raised against them.
HRCM’s Attorney Maumoon Hameed stated that the commission did not intentionally break any laws and did nothing intending to bring down the Supreme Court.
