Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer has stated that the difference of governance by the governments of PPM and MDP was starkly clear to the public.
Delivering the closing address at the “President Yameen 2018” initiative to train campaign leaders held Baa Eydhafushi, Minister Zameer said the then opposition during the MDP leadership had passed all required bills and budgets proposed by the Government. However, he said in spite all of the assistance provided, the MDP leadership had failed to initiate projects.
Minister Zameer reflected on the number of projects run in the two years, noting man projects were on going. Once the projects are complete, he said the Government was dispatching review teams to four or five locations every week.
Minister Zameer added the manifesto had pledged US$ 15,000 per head, noting the Government aimed to reach the goal.
Zameer further added the statistics show a slight rise in infant mortality during MDP leadership due to lack of proper procedure. He said the infant mortality rates had dipped over the last 40 years.
“In the past two years, the Government had opened a pharmacy in in all islands, providing Aasanda services,” he said.
Minister Zameer further noted that the President had reversed the fortunes of many state owned corporations.
“When the Government took control of STO, the profits stood at MVR 12 million. At the time of Chairman’s resignation, the targeted profits are over MVR 200 million. We have to take funds from state to pay salaries of STELCO staff. President Yameen had engineered a change, which is now earning MVR 50 to 60 million in the past years,” he said
Zameer added that by 2018, the local economy will have thrived and flourished. He attributed the change to the new lease policy, where MMPRC will lease islands for development in alliance with Finance Ministry, Economic Ministry and Attorney General’s Office.
