Minister of Defense and National Security Adam Shareef has stated that extremism will not be allowed to flourish in the country.
Speaking to press in the Coast Guard building this afternoon, Adam Shareef said the National Counter Terrorism Center will begin operations next week. He added the foremost mandate of the Center will be to ensure citizens and their property were protected.
Minister Shareef further said if they noticed any individual spouting extremist philosophies, the Center will take the necessary steps to rectify the situation, via counseling and reintegration into the society.
Minister Shareef noted that the army was currently following the National Security Act, but said the Act needed revision. He added the new draft regulation will be shared with stakeholders for comments and submitted to the Parliament this year.
