At the Twenty-second Sitting of the First Session of the People’s Majlis held today, the Bill on Amendment to the Privileges and Protection for former Presidents Act (Act No. 9/2009), tabled by Hon. Abdul Latheef Mohamed, MP for Dhiddhoo, was passed with 43 votes in favour, as reviewed by the 7 Member Select Committee. There were 23 votes against.
The Committee Report was presented to the floor by Chair of the 7 Select Committee Hon. Riyaz Rasheed, MP for Vilifushi. Ten Members spoke during time allocated for debate on the Committee Report.
The First Reading of the Bill was held on 15 February 2016 at the Second Sitting of the First Session. It was accepted for Majlis consideration and sent to a 7 Member Select Committee review on 18 March 2016 at the Seventeenth Sitting of the First Session.
