Japan Provides 81 million MRf Grant for Disaster Risk Reduction Equipment
The Government of Japan provides a grant of Japanese Yen 600 million (approximately 81 million Maldivian Rufiyaa) to the Government of Maldives under the “Economic and Social Development Programme for Provision of Japanese Disaster Reduction Equipment for 2016”,for procuring a range of essential Disaster Reduction Equipmentmanufactured by Japanese enterprises.
This grant will be utilized to procure related equipment and materials for disaster risk management such as warning system to share disaster information and disaster response. Further, disaster restoration items such as drainage pumps will be procured. The equipment provided under this grant scheme will be selected by the Government of Maldives in consultation with the line agencies concerned.
In 2015, the Government of Japan provided a grant of Japanese Yen 500 million (approximately 64 million Maldivian Rufiyaa) to the Government of Maldives under the “Non-Project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese Disaster Reduction Equipment”, for obtaining a variety of essential Disaster Reduction Equipment. The Government and the people of Japan hope that the aforementioned grant will benefit the vulnerable communities in Maldives for the enhancement of their socio economic situation and quality of life.
