President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that there will be no caste system in his government and everyone will be treated equally.
President Yameen made this remark speaking at the ceremony held to launch the “24 hour electricity service is certain” project.
He said that some of the media have tried to create a distinction between Male’ Atoll and the other atolls. “My government does not regard the people of Male’ as a high privileged caste. We do not believe in this caste system. We love equality and for us every Maldivian citizen is beloved to us regardless where he or she is from,” he said.
The President reiterated that his government does not believe in differentiating between the people. He said that such talks and beliefs are of the past and to speak of it now is a waste of time.
He noted that those living in Male’ are not only from Male’ but people from all regions of Maldives live in Male’.
He said that the development projects aimed at Male’ and the bridge to be built between Male’ and Hulhumale’ will not only benefit the people of Male’ but will also benefit others who live in Male’.
