Trials for former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, Male’ Area Commander of the Maldives National Defence Force Ahmed Fayaz (Papa) and the two body guards of Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Corporal Ahmed Amir and Sergeant Ahmed Rikaz, in connection with the September 28, 2015 blast on presidential speedboat ‘Finifemaa’ has begun.
Abuse of power charges were filed on Adeeb, while terror charges were filed against the two body guards. In today’s hearing, all had requested time to appoint legal representation.
The Court had given a seven day period to appoint legal representation. The Court had also ordered to remand Rikaz and Amir in jail for the duration of the case. Cases were filed against the two on the allegation that they had planted explosives on the Finifenmaa.
Two charges were also filed against the then head of SPG Ahmed Fayaz. He had denied the allegations.
