The Maldives Insurance Forum has started today with the Lanka Stock Exchange.
Speaking in the opening of the forum held today in MMA Auditorium, Capital Market Development Authority’s CEO Ahmed Naseer said that such a Forum was held with Mauritius Stock Exchange, adding that the Forum was a success.
“As a result a local company has been listed in Mauritius Stock Exchange,” he said.
Naseer said that tourism was the biggest revenue earner for the Maldives, adding that there were many development opportunities for capital markets in the country. He added that Maldives is yet to develop key strategic partnerships with financial agencies to develop the fledgling financial sector.
Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said that there were many opportunities given the many development projects initiated by the Government and the thriving resort sector.
“Previously, tour operators had developed resorts from their earnings. However, the projects now are bigger and that supply is not enough. The finances are not enough, we have to find more sources for finance,” he said.
Minister had congratulated Sri Lanka Stock Exchange for taking part in the Forum.
Sri Lanka Stock Exchange Chairman also spoke in the Forum and stated that this was the first time the Exchange was taking part in such a Forum.
“Sri Lanka Stock Exchange is working with other international exchanges to start trading. Maldivians can make the best use of this opportunity,” he said.
In addition to Sri Lanka Stock Exchange, 22 local companies and seven Sri Lankan companies are taking part in the Forum.
