Former Speaker of Parliament and state dignitary Ahmed Zahir has stated that even though ruling coalition MPs supported the Government, their voting rights should not be compromised.
Zahir said that all MPs had to support bills and motions that benefited the nation and contributed to the infrastructure development of the nation.
Zahir noted that the biggest responsibility of the MPs was upholding the rights of the public, and as such, when voting the MPs had to uphold that sacred trust.
He also said that supporting the Government had to be within certain means, noting that public good and protecting the rights of the public had to be the first and foremost priority.
“However, we see that coalition MPs rush to vote in favor of each and every move without even considering the outcomes of that move. That is an erroneous move,” he said.
