Environment Ministry has held an evening ceremony in Rasfannu Beach to mark the World Weather Day.
Speaking in the ceremony, Deputy Director General of Met Department Ali Shareef said that the agency will keep working on their mandate to raise awareness on climate related issues.
The evening focused on disseminating information on weather alerts and climate related information, aimed at both adults and children.
He noted that there were many alerts issued in connection to the weather and climate, adding that there were no alerts issued for heat. He said that he hoped that such an alert would not have to be introduced to the Maldives.
April is generally the one of the hottest months of the year, with temperatures reaching 36 degrees on average. Some social media reports had surfaced that the temperatures would reach 40 degrees, which the authorities had said would not be possible.
