FENAKA Corporation has stated that the tenders for the backup containerized generators will be announced in the coming week.
Speaking to the press, FENAKA CEO Mohamed Nimal said that the sets range from two kilowatts to 350 kilowatts.
Nimal added that under the initiative 13 mobile generators will be brought to the country and will be used to supply emergency electricity in case of a major power outage even in a small island.
Nimal noted that the tender for the re-construction of the damaged powerhouse in Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo had been announced. He further said that the tenders for the installation of 48 engines of four sizes, will be announced in the coming two weeks.
Nimal stated that the construction of a powerhouse normally takes a year and a half, adding that the period was a significantly long time.
“The powerhouses need to be constructed as the citizens are inconvenienced by the disruptions in the service. It is imperative that the work is needed to be finished,” he said.
Nimal said that the powerhouse to be constructed in 46 islands will be prefabricated.
He further said that even though the Government had installed 77 generators in various islands, the energy needs had increased. He said that an additional 30 generators will be flown in during the coming week.
