Keyodhoo Constituency MP Sheikh Moosa Nizar has said that the tourism in the atoll has already changed and benefited many citizens.
Speaking in the Parliament session, Moosa Nizar said that with the advent of guest house tourism in the islands Vaavu atoll was one the early adopters of the sector, noting that the sector was booming. He added that the livelihoods of the citizens of the atoll had drastically improved.
Nizar said in the event any action is taken against the tourism sector, it will directly impact the livelihoods of the citizens.
“It is linked to every citizen, especially citizens of the atoll. Therefore, I am concerned over the issue. I urge all the members of this Parliament to enact harsh punishments on those who carry out such acts,” he said.
Nizar said that a responsible opposition party aiming to come to power will not resort to such immature unpatriotic theatrics to achieve their goals.
“I believe that damaging the economy is destructive. Our economy heavily reliant on one sector, harming it will only hurt the entire nation, livelihoods of many,” he said.
