Appeal hearings for Nazim to be held today
High Court has scheduled the appeal hearings of the 11 year jail term on weapons possession charges against former Defense Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim for today.

The hearings have been set for 2pm today.

Even though the Court had formally concluded the hearings, they had held an additional hearing stating that additional evidence and witness statements needed to be taken.

In the additional hearing, confidential eyewitness statements of six members of the SWAT team that entered Nazim’s apartment was taken. Out of the six, five witnesses had given their account while in Court, while the other had given the eye witness statement via audio conference from Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo Court.

The statements were filed on behalf of Nazim as part of his defense.

There were many conflicting aspects of all the statements and between the statements.

Nazim was sentenced on 27th March 2015.
