Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s Male’ Area Commander, Brigadier Ali Zuhair has underscored the importance for having natural disaster management capabilities in all tourist resorts.
Ali Zuhair made this remark speaking at the ceremony held at Paradise Island Resort to confer the certificates for the 43 staffs of Sun Island Resort for completing the fire fighting course held at the resort.
He said that the resorts are required to risk reduction considerations as well as preparedness to save and protect its clientele in an unforeseen disaster because of the difficulties in attending the scene on time by MNDF rescue due to the geography of Maldives. He added that it is also not easy to remove such obstacles.
Ali Zuhair said that tourist resorts are big investments and it is important that each resort has its own firefighting squad who would be the primary first responders who would work to control and contain fire emergencies in the resorts.
He noted the efforts of Sun Island Resort to establish their own fire squad and for their preparedness to respond to such emergencies.
“Sun Island has enough fire fighting equipments and also people who have been trained for this,” he said.
Ali Zuhair thanked the management and resort’s team for taking the initiative to develop disaster management in the resort.
