Will work to create a digital economy in Maldives: Ooredoo CEO
Ooredoo CEO Vikram Singh has said that the company will work to ensure that the Maldivian economy was developed in a digital economy.

He made the statement speaking in the launching of the Mobile Money by Ooredoo held in Hotel Jen Monday morning.

“Ooredoo has a vision to make Maldives into a digital nation. Today we are taking a step forward in that direction. We do not have to hesitate because Maldives is a small nation; we have the capability to proceed ahead to the levels of developed nations,” he said.

He said that Mobile Money will enable customers to carry out transactions with more ease and safety and directly to the individual account.

“Customers can transfer cash to bank accounts, take cash from agents, pay bills, carry out online transactions, shop, dine, basically any service that can be carried out using bank accounts,” he said.

Singh noted that the service will be especially useful for isolated islands with sparse population, usually unsupported by regular banking services.

Speaking to Miadhu, Ooredoo Senior Executive Public Relations Noora Ibrahim Zahir said that the service will be tested on 1000 Ooredoo customers in the trial period and will be expanded to the country in the future.
