Maldives had always been recognized for hospitality: Saeed
Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has said that Maldives, from ages back even, had always been recognized for hospitality.

He made the statement, speaking in the ceremony held Maafushi Island, to launch the BML’s new branch in the Island. The island is fast becoming one of the hubs for guest house tourism, in a nation renowned for hospitality.

Minister Saeed said that Maldives always had had a culture of hospitality, predating the launch of tourism in the country in 1972.

“As a result, were are the global champions in Island tourism, leisure tourism, beach holidays,” Minister Saeed said.

He added that peace and stability were key tenets of this achievement, noting that the Government aimed to preserve these factors in the economy for the coming years.

Minister Saeed noted that Maafushi had over 40 guest houses, adding that the island is now setting standards for tourism sector.

Minister Saeed had condemned the actions by the opposition to disrupt the nation’s tourism sector, in spite of the many benefits the country enjoyed due to the sector.

“Saying that Maldives was a threatening place for tourists is the biggest injustice and crime committed against the public,” he said.

Minister Saeed noted that the newly launched payment gateway was a boost to local business, thanking the staff and management of BML.
