Former Islamic Minister Dr. Abdul Majeed Abdul Baaree has called on all to reflect on why foreign parties are calling for the release of Adhaalath Party chief, Sheikh Imran Abdullah.
In the rally held in Artificial Beach by Adhaalath Party, Dr. Baaree posed the question, stating that the unjustness of the sentence was further highlighted in that Sheikh Imran was a staunch believer of Islam. Dr. Baaree said that foreign bodies and nations were calling for his release not anticipating any returns from the Sheikh but solely because the sentence was unfair and made on baseless claims.
Dr. Baaree further said that when Courts issues sentences with no legal basis, all who are outraged by the blatant disrespect to the law, will voice out their concerns.
He added that the Government had consistently said that they want to establish an internationally recognized legal system in the country.
“If that is the case, then personal accounts of government officials and the transactions made into those accounts have to be made public knowledge,” he said.
Dr. Baaree further added that a solid system, in which the verdicts of the courts have to be scrutinized, has to be instilled in the country.
“The proper legal checks and balances have to exist in the country to create a balanced fair system,” he said.
