Accountability is a responsibility in an Islamic rule: Dr. Abdul Majeed

Former Islamic Minister Dr. Abdul Majeed Abdul Baaree has said that holding rulers accountable is a responsibility in an Islamic rule.
He made the statement speaking in the rally held by Adhaalath Party in Artificial Beach.

Dr. Baaree said that the rule of caliphates is looked at during the Friday sermons but related stories of the caliphates on their rule, accountability and responsibilities. He said that this aspect has to be talked about on a public setting.

Dr. Baaree said that it was the duty and responsibility of each and every Muslim to hold their leaders accountable, be a watchdog for the deeds and misdeeds of the rulers and when the situation arises, every Muslim should instruct against any wrong doings.

“The Prophet had said that the biggest jihad is speaking against unjust rulers. Therefore, there is no doubt that holding rulers accountable is a vital aspect of Islam,” he said.

Dr. Baaree gave credence to his statements by quoting the Quran, adding that overseeing all this is a big responsibility for all. He added that due to this people were tasked with the responsibility of doing so.

“Motto for this year February in the ACC calendar had called to act against corruption as a national responsibility,” he said.

Dr. Baaree added that AP was carrying out this mandate in the country, noting that this was a key mandate of the AP leader Sheikh Imran Abdullah. He added that Imran had learnt of the corrupt influences in the Government and had met the President with AP members to voice his concerns.

Dr. Baaree further said that Imran had begun to share this information with the public only after the President had refused to hear the concerns. He decried the 12 year terror charges on Imran, labelling them as an attempt to silence the voices, unfair and judicially unsound.

Dr. Baaree noted that the sentence had earned the criticism of the international partners as well.
