Hulhumalé Orphanage opens
The Hulhumale’ orphanage has been opened.

The orphanage, constructed with the assistance of Mahmood Al Haja and his family, had cost over US$ 600,000 and was opened by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.

The orphanage will have facilities and board for 120 children and will be gender separated. Gender Ministry has said that children under nine years old will be housed in the new orphanage. Minister of Law and Gender, Mohamed Anil said that the 86 children will soon be transferred to the new premises.

In the ceremony, President Yameen presented a commemorative plaque to the family, honoring their contribution. Gender Ministry had presented a commemorative plaque to First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim for the services and assistance she rendered to make it a truly successful project.

Gender Ministry said that First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim’s assistance was vital, adding that she was closely monitoring the orphanages in Hulhumale’ and observing the status of the children there.

Gender Ministry had also noted that President Yameen had placed importance on securing safe environments for children.
