Adhaalath Party (AP) chief Sheikh Imran Abdullah has been sentenced to 12 years on terror charges.
The Sheikh was sentenced under clause 6 subsection (b) of the Anti-Terror Act. The charges filed against Sheikh Imran accused him of creating unrest and urging division among the protesting masses during the May Day rally.
The sentenced delivered by the Court said that Imran had been found guilty of the charges and the evidence submitted to Court, proved beyond reasonable doubt that Sheikh Imran’s statements had been vital in the violence that ensued. Additionally, the Court said that damages and injuries caused to the Police officers that day had occurred due to the statements made by Sheikh Imran.
The interim Judge of Criminal Court, Abdullah Baaree had reviewed the case.
Speaking to press after the trial, Sheikh Imran’s lawyer and AP Deputy Leader Sheikh Ali Zahir said that Imran did not accept the ruling issued by the Court. He added that Sheikh Imran’s will remained unchaged in spite of the ruling.
Ali Zahir further said that he was extremely sure that Imran will be freed after completing the appeal process.
