The visiting Vikramaditya was created with the intent to be always prepared for war.
Speaking to press, the ship officers said that India had not waged war against any nation after 1971 but had always remained prepared for conflict given the current status of the world.
Vikramaditya is a 23 storey state of the art vessel, with the airport area measuring 10 stories. Currently, 1600 individuals are onboard; the vessel has all facilities available on an island. The vessel also has search and rescue helicopters as well as aircraft used in warfare.
The vessel is also equipped with a 30 bed hospital, with five professional doctors and 30 healthcare professionals. In addition to the daily needs of the individuals on board, the vessel houses around 400 tons of diesel.
The officers on board said that their main work was to secure the waters of the Indian Ocean.
