The Government has said that the electricity bills for February will be based on the reduced tariffs.
Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim said that the Government was always aiming to provide basic services to the public at sustainable rates.
He added that the reduced tariffs announced on the 1st of this month will be amended and announced in the coming week.
He further said that under the scheme to lower electricity prices, the Government aims to reduce reliance of fuel and increase reliance on renewable energy. Minister Thoriq said that under this initiative, the Government had facilitated many incentives and measures for private parties.
STO will soon introduce products that will enable home owners to generate energy from renewable sources. A special fund, amounting to MVR 500 milion, has also been created by BML to facilitate the process.
