Ministerial Delegation Meets   Mr Kamalesh Sharma, Commonwealth Secretary-General
A ministerial delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Ms Dunya Maumoon, and comprising Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr Mohamed Shainee, and Attorney-General Mohamed Anil and Chief Communications Officer at the President's office, Mr Ali Khalid, have today met with the Commonwealth Secretary General, H.E. Mr Kamalesh Sharma.

During the meeting, held at the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Ministers briefed the Secretary-General on recent political developments including former President Nasheed’s medical leave in London.

Discussions between the Ministers and Secretary-General also focused on the recent visit to the Maldives by a delegation of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG). This visit saw the Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guyana and Vice-Chair of CMAG, HE Mr Carl Greenidge; Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade for Kenya, Dr. Amina Mohamed; and Foreign Secretary of the Republic of India, Dr. S Jaishankar, travel to the Maldives earlier this month.

The Ministers and Secretary General agreed that the recent visit of the CMAG delegation reaffirmed the value of close partnership and collaboration between the Commonwealth Secretariat and member states.

The Ministers were accompanied by recently appointed Non resident High Commissioner to the UK, Mr Ahmed Shiaan, and Deputy High Commissioner Mr Hassan Shifau. The Deputy Secretary General (Political), Dr Josephine Ojiambo and a number of other Commonwealth officials were also in attendance.
